The Frying Pan name was coined early in Fran's career. In those days, he was an investigative reporter for a daily newspaper, sauteing politicians and exposing frauds, schemes and con-men. The popular column evolved into a first-person account of his travels, cooking and exchanging recipes. |

Fran and wife Judy are certified as bbq judges by the Kansas City BBQ Society. Fran served four years as a judge at the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational BBQ Cookoff at Lynchburg TN. |

| The Frys have judged and participated at over 100 bbq cookoffs, professional rib fests and chili cookoffs over the past 30 years. The Frys judged, and Judy was a table captain, at the two-day Best of the Best Invitational BBQ and Smokin' on the Square III in Douglas GA. | ||||

They are also members of the Association of Food Journalists, the Kansas City BBQ Society, the New England BBQ Society, the Canadian Smokers and BBQers Association and the Great Lakes BBQ Association.
